It is my personal opinion that we shouldnt seek a B team at a "15" man event.
I do not believe that we have around 35 players strong enough to represent Dfs at this level..

Once the A team is chosen others should be using the B team as a learning experience and get the feel for that level of the game and all the things that go with playing infront of that type crowd.

Did the B team not equal or better the A team in 11's?

sorry my good man you are wrong there.they failed to get out of there group but the A team did.the standard is so high 3 shots your not getting the chance to learn cause your ass is getting tanned.there are lots of B team comps now that are good for the things you were saying.the A team struggles to do well and after the 18 that have been picked and those who cant make it there IS a big gulf in class.most off the other B teams are from places that have a larger amount of quality players and is SO hard to get in there A team.and there team is as good as our A team PEACE

No they didnt Mike. And also that was the 11s, this is a 15 man so there is even more players required.

Personally i think it should be left to the B team manager to :

1) see if he has enough interest amongst players
2) decide whether he thinks the team is strong enough to challenge for a qualifying place

What you need to remember this year is the fact that the last few places will be taken by a qualification tournament and not a ballot as has been the case in the past, i think there are enough players to make up a B team , getting them motivated and interested enough to play and travel is an entirely different animal!!!

I aint disputing that there is probably enough players to make up a B Team, however I seriously doubt there is enough depth to any B team to make it worthwhile and not detrimental to the building reputation of Dfs.

That's all i was meaning.

I have been in touch with Scotty Robson 2 or 3 weeks ago and he said he wanted a B team entered so right or wrong we have 2 teams entered. It was entered at the July meeting so we now have to play. I will find out at the September meeting where and when the play offs will be for the B team. I am sure Scotty will be in touch with the players he wants to go soon. The money for A and B teams have to be paid by September.

We have a reputation for many reasons not helped by Bal C's no show to the Champions event. Are the SPA still waiting on payment?

Whatever standard the B team has should be as good as or better than a lot of A teams from areas smaller than Dumfries. Win lose or draw will be at the standard of the A team until the last couple of years successes.

More Dumfries players having an opportunity to play and learn at a higher level, whats wrong with that?

Both teams should be able to play independant of each other without concern of the other team doing better or worse.

I wasn't saying Dfs had a bad reputation, I was saying we had a building reputation!! Ie a good thing, don't see why you feel the need to turn that around to a swipe on my team!!! Evil or Very Mad

You have your opinion Mike, fair enough. I have mine. I just don't believe we have a good enough 18 players after the initial 18 for the A team to compete at this level and certainly not against A teams.

And it is not a case of one team worrying about the other team. Just look what happened a couple of years back when most of the so called top players didn't wish to attend and it was left to the other players outwith the top 15 or so.. I think we attended with about 8 players to a 15 man event and with about 5 t-shirts between the team. If you cannot see what effect that has on our reputation then it ain't worth me trying to spell it out for you!

I think its quite a selfish attitude for anyone to say the B team should not enter, surely that should be the managers and players decision , even if they aint good enough to win the competition the experience they gain serves well for the future, i believe they have an upset in their locker if they can get the next best 18 to play, there is only 2 ways to get better at pool, 1) practice and 2) play at a higher level than you are accustomed to, there is no player in Dumfries that has the right to deny the B team an opportunity to play in this tournament, Dumfries pool will still be judged on the A teams performance!!!
